GEP Test and kiasu-ism at its ugliest
i borrowed the above title from a blog i stumbled upon while googling for the definitions of GEP
you see, last evening when i came home from work my 1st one said,
"ibu, tomorrow afiq have to be at school by 8.45am"
me - "why so early, remedial eh?"
1st one - "no, mr nara says got GEP test"
me - "GEP? what on earth is that???"
okay, i might be trying to prove a point here - not that i needed to anyway
that i'm certainly not a parent who has fallen into the kiasu-ism cult
no way man!
so this morning, in the office i googled up GEP
so it's short for Gifted Education Programme
in short, it is a an annual screening test for the cohort of P3 students
in which they will be tested on maths and nglish
my oh my...very interesting read indeed
in fact, i borrowed the blog title above from hedgehogcomms.blogspot.com
hope i won't be hit by copyright infringement issue here, certainly hope not
and then i googled some more
and i very much liked this one, taken from a forum thread :
"If a child is gifted, the gift must have come from God."
"It is inborn and therefore FOC... I don't think we need to pay a single cent to attain the gift."
well said!
now that i've smartened up a bit, having woken up from my blur sotong moments
i understand now what GEP is all about
hey, wait a minute....i've heard about GEP before
but now that it's my son's turn to kena GEP, i just have to know more about it
and after having known more about GEP, it doesn't change things one bit
GEP is not an ugly thing, to my opinion
it is when parents start to pressure and put high expectations on a child and that's when it turns ugly
which brings me back to the red bold phrase above
but of course, i am one laid-back parent to the point of being totally clueless
hhmmm....that's not a good thing is it?
hhmmm...maybe i should sit for GEP test myself
Gifted Education for Parents
and oh, i so love the weather in ramadhan
showers late at night till the wee hours in the morning
Ya Allah, You are THE BEST!!!
