from that moment on…..

dinner at kintamani last night was great. my personal take? the rest of the gang opted for buffet though i was hoping for ala carte pursuant to lola’s suggestion. but i was okay with it really….perot dah lapar beb. ko kasik kayu pun aku bedal! food was okay okay jer…nothing too fantastic except for the “pisang epek panggang dan keju”. i think “epek” here means pisang “kepok” as we normally call it. it definitely looks like pisang “kepok” to me.
it is very yummy-licious and in fact soOO darn easy to do – sliced the banana in half, stuff it with mozzarella cheese and fry with very little oil on a flat pan. sprinkle some cinnamon sugar on both sides. it comes with dipping sauce like mango sauce, caramel sauce or melted chocolate. it certainly reminds me of fondue. too bad, her royal highness too preoccupied in indulgence that she forgot to take a shot at the pisang epek.

now let’s move on to this morning’s uneventful event. while her royal highness was in the shower and brushing her teeth with her head bowed down, she felt a sharp stinging pain coming from the back of her neck (kat bawah tengkuk belakang tu..paham eh paham) the pain lingered till now. sungguh tak leh “ang” lah beb. i am reaching out to mak esah tonight for a good massage at that problem area. a case of ‘salah bantal’ agaknyer tak? sakit sesangat….

the one where i have to draw the line and slap myself umpteen times in order to achieve it

for the 1st time in ramadhan this year, her royal highness will be breaking her fast away from home tonight. not that i totally shun breaking fast outside. i was never one to begin with. i recall i am someone one who liked to break fast outside, trying food at different joints, continued with shopping or just window shopping after that and all that jazz. back to now, when i have to think about where to perform solat maghrib and maybe age is catching up fast with me…nowadays i get tired very easily. i have to face it, i am not that agile as i used to be.
i will be 31 next month. now, that is not exactly when one will call the ageing phase does it? but yet again, 31 is no longer a youthful era or is it?

the real deal is actually, that big aussie boss of mine is back in singapore and he has asked for a get together dinner tonight with the rest of the team. so my manager, realising how “cerewet” and “selective” i have become over the years when it comes to food, has enstrusted me to make the dinner arrangements. trust me, it has not been easy, really.

initially i got flaks like
“but g, last time u also got eat there wat”
or
“but that restaurant doesn’t serve pork but not halal certified lah”
or
“never mind, we don’t select menus which got pork lah, we can settle for chicken, beef or veggie”

yeah, i should just slap myself there and then. like I’ve said in my previous entry, we are our own walking contradictions. we are the cause of misconceptions. it can never be any truer than that. yes, i have misled them. most shameful thing is, i have misled myself. and now i am facing the music, tasting my own bitter medicine. i have persevered since, and alhamdulillah they begin to understand and nowadays should there be any makan sessions, they will consult me first before making any reservations. or better yet, i will be more than happy to make the reservations for i can be sure that all criterias are met.

so back to tonight makan session, i enlisted few options for him, in the order of my own preference (hehehe…aku yang in charge per..ikot selera oden laaa) – carousel @ royal plaza on scotts, straits kitchen @ grand hyatt, kintamani @ furama, sofra and samar.

“i leave it to you G, you decide okay”….sesungguhnyer itulah jawapan yang ku nanti nantikan wahai tuan manager. aper lagik, i called the reservation lines but too bad – carousel & straits kitchen fully booked. next bet, kintamani which alhamdulillah dapat. so indonesian cuisine it is!
ok, settled the makan part…maghrib nanti camner pulak?

fyi, all the restaurants which i’ve contacted do have prayers rooms prepared for by the hotels. so there. no worries frens. we can still be in society, mixing with people of different races and cultures while keeping our Islamic obligatory duties intact at the same time. bak kater pepatah,
dunia pun nak, akhirat pun nak….

all it takes is a little bit of arrangement and common sense. i guess should there be no prayer room provided by the hotel, then find out the nearest mosque in the area.
99 out of 100, i am sure there is a mosque in the vicinity.

the least you can do is try

1st tuas then clementi then tagore….so where's next?

i can’t believe it. it is quite bizarre that it is indeed happening very very soon. for the past decade since i worked my ass off in this mnc-sebijik-mcm-cina-bukit-nyer-co., we have already moved to 3 locations. that means on average, a move once in every 3years. well, not exactly. let me recap;

1997 – 1999 ; tuas
1999 – 2000 ; clementi
2000 – 2007 ; tagore
2008 - ???? ; tuas? pandan crescent?
???? – RIP : lim chu kang?

oh well, whatever, anything.

sunday, 23rd Sept - Iftar and terawih with family

this time there aren’t too many pictures to show. in fact, her royal highness has only a few to show. itu pun…jeng jeng jeng…..

kalaulah selipar boleh berkata kata "sesungguhnya aku berpuasa"

bedroom talk

mustaqim budak kiut

bukan aper, 1stly my camera phone was overloaded due to sat’s iftar photo taking. 2ndly when you are crowded with a group of 30 hungry adults and kids, camera ke maner aper ker maner, dah tak ingat lagik dah.

alhamdulillah the iftar was as always – loud and noisy. standardlah, when the sabris’ meet the ismails’ things can get rowdy in a wholesome kinda way. *chuckles*

bro-in-law jamal as always would lead the prayer of isya’ and terawih. this time was i very glad and satisfied that we did 20 raka’at followed by witir. there were few who called it quits after the eighth rakaat – mainly the kids! the heir was heard asking his father “abah, kenaper banyak sangat sembahyang, afiq tired, kaki afiq tak leh tahan”. mak buyung yati surrendered too though she would love to continue until ms giddy spell decided to pay her a visit.

sis-in-law kak ju brought jagung bakar.
sis banun with her otak-otak express,
kak tini with her generous contribution of french loaf and eggs to go along with our main menu – kacang phool.
mak buyung yati with her pudding, big enough to be the ‘kepala meja’.
and of course, our home cooked kacang phool, fried bee hoon (yes, masak ni lagik) and corn and strawberry dadih.
and somebody brought murtabak and dal vadeh…perhaps it was kak linda – my sis-in-law.

thank you all.

for a charitable cause

salam everyone,

early this morning, ms drubilee and i chatted via msn. she informed me of a project she has collaborated with her hubby in contributing to the less fortunate children at the orphanage. the project is to collect funds as much as we can to provide new hari raya clothings for the kids. there are around 80 kids at the orphanage, and working on $20-$25 per child, $2000 will be needed for this project to be a successful one.
therefore, in conjuntion of ramadhan that comes with the spirits of giving in this holy month, i am sure nadya and partner will appreciate contribution of any kind from you, our kind readers cum philantropists.
may Allah rewards us for our good deeds.
amin.

SYAITAN DAN HIDUNG....(i liked the last part best)
Hadis Abu Hurairah r.a: Nabi s.a.w telah bersabda:
Akhir kata........
"Walaupun dirimu tidak kukenal, tetapi lubang hidungmu tetap menjadi pujaan hati"
jutaan terima kaseh kepada Encik Anwari..you make my day lah!

this was sent to me by my abg long

why do we read Qur'an, even if we can't understand a single Arabic word????
here is a beautiful story.
an old american muslim lived on a farm in the mountains of eastern kentucky with his young grandson.
each morning grandpa was up early sitting at the kitchen table reading his Qur'an.
his grandson wanted to be just like him and tried to imitate him in every way he could.
one day the grandson asked, "grandpa! i try to read the Qur'an just like you but i don't understand it, and what i do understand i forget as soon as i close the book. what good does reading the Qur'an do?"
the grandfather quietly turned from putting coal in the stove and replied, "take this coal basket down to the river and bring me back a basket of water. "
the boy did as he was told, but all the water leaked out before he got back to the house. the grandfather laughed and said, "you'll have to move a little faster next time," and sent him back to the river with the basket to try again.
this time the boy ran faster, but again the basket was empty before he returned home. out of breath, he told his grandfather that it was impossible to carry water in a basket, and he went to get a bucket instead.
the old man said, "i don't want a bucket of water, i want a basket of water. you're just not trying hard enough," and he went out the door to watch the boy try again. at this point, the boy knew it was impossible, but he wanted to show his grandfather that even if he ran as fast as he could, the water would leak out before he got back to the house. the boy again dipped the basket into river and ran hard, but when he reached his grandfather the basket was again empty.
out of breath, he said, "see grandpa, it's useless!" "so you think it is useless?" the old man said, "look at the basket." the boy looked at the basket and for the first time realized that the basket was different.
it had been transformed from a dirty old coal basket and was now clean, inside and out.
"son, that's what happens when you read the Qur'an. you might not understand or remember everything, but when you read it, you will be changed, inside and out."
"that is the work of Allah in our lives."

Prophet Muhammad ( p.b.u.h) says: "the one who guides to good will be rewarded equally"

the one where things just got better and better

after tadarrus on saturday, i went home with only little time for a quick shower, zuhur and off again to hougang. this time it was iftar cum birthday celebration for my eldest biras - Abg Sali aka Pak Broto.

birthday boy

coincidentally he was the host for that sat's iftar too. it was also the birthdays of my sis-in-law, kak nina and aunt-in-law, cik kimah. of course what is iftar without the food eh. food was simple yet delicious spread of chicken porride, fried macaroni, corn custard (courtesy from my mak esah lah), roti kirai with curry potato stuffings, colourful cakes and murtabak and of course buah kurma is a must.

raiyan aka tak kuasa bontot power

iftar was then followed by tarawwih and gifts-opening session and lots of picture taking, thanks to my heiress for snapping all the shots.

the one entry where no title is suitable for it

i do not have any idea what title to put for this entry of mine. no title is most appropriate to my perception. for the past weekend on saturday and Sunday mornings, my time was most spent in tampines where i got the chance to tadarrus al-quran with bonda. alhamdulillah. will be going there this weekend again. but don’t worry lovelies, i’ll be back home in time for preparation of our iftar this sat.

back to the tadarrus al-quran sessions, i was totally engrossed in the whole thing, much mesmerized by bonda’s beautiful recitation and her detailed translations behind these splendid recitations. totally ashamed with my own capability or certainly the lack of it in reciting the surahs. so captivated was i that i did not mind not leaving the place at all. not till bonda so called shooed us away “korang ni tak tau nak balik agaknyer eh?” the whole thing was simply beautiful. i realized i committed too many mistakes in my reading. as bonda put it “sungguh pun bacaan awak lancar, dah kenal huruf tapi terdapat banyak pelanggaran di dalam bacaan awak. itu bahaya kerana boleh merubah makna al-quran” *sad*.

sujud tilawah was yet another amazing, amazing thing altogether. i just couldn’t describe it. biarlah rahsia…..

for those of you out there who is keen on learning the words of Allah swt and especially my lovelies who are tampines residents, bonda would like to call out to you and join hands in learning ayat-ayat suci al-quran and together gain barakah from it. don’t worry, she doesn’t bite.*chuckles*
even if one does not understand the meaning behind the words, just by reading it one will gain benefits and pahala from The Creator. bonda’s learning centre is at tampines (pasar bulat as most of the residents called it). forgive me for i do not have the full address. The only thing i know is to board 168 from woodlands straight to tampines and alight when the bus turns left after tampines mall. that’s it. really blur like sotong the 1st time my cousin, biras and i went there. 1st time in my life i took a bus to tampines. Alhamdulillah He showed us the way. contact no. for the learning centre is 6783 7764

sleepy but happy

it's been 8 years since i last took a double-decker bus...jakon lah

ramadhan iftar (taken from wikipedia) :-

'iftar refers to the evening meal for breaking the daily fast during the islamic month of ramadhan. iftar during ramadhan is often done as a community, with muslims gathering to break their fast together. iftar is done right after maghrib (sunset) time. traditionally a date is the 1st thing to be consumed during iftar when the fast is broken.'

thus lovelies, here's the 1st official announcement for you.
let's make an iftar date (not the fruit kind) followed by tarawih session on 22nd september, Saturday. Location will be advised later but there are 2 options - my humble abode (west side) or sis muna's darul furqan (east side).
InsyaAllah.

so there you got it my lovely sisters. it will be potluck but anything simple and within your capacity will suffice. not to worry much, it is your presence and sincerity in striving towards Allah's path that is most important and for which this iftar and tarawih are held. so let's set our niyyah (intention) right and leave the rest to Him. may he gives us His blessings and reserves for each of us a small spot in His vast Paradise.

for those who are interested, please email to me

Salam.

kalau dah dinamakan budak/kanak-kanak/anak kecil memang macam macam ragam jorang nie especially comes ramadhan. biaserlah i was once a child too...nong nong time ago..*smiles*.

now i am a parent and being one, i need to equip myself with armour and all the wits i can think of when children starts to bombard with their perpetually honest yet brutal questions. outwit.outplay.outlast.

like for instance, i just hung up the phone with my heiress. all the prep, motivational talks, encouragement seems to be hanging on a balance when she said,

heiress - hello ibu. wafa dah tak tahan
ibu - tak tahan aper sayang? (aksyen blur lah gitu)
heiress- wafa tak boleh tahan puasa
ibu - aik, baru half day jer wafa! eh tak boleh lah macam tu, you must control, don't run around so you won't feel tired
heiress - wafa tak boleh tahan air ludah
ibu - ??????? (blur sesaat) what do you mean you cannot tahan air ludah?
heiress - wafa macam tak boleh raser air ludah wafa
ibu - ohhhhh! lidah wafa kering eh? tapi wafa tak boleh minum air tao, nanti dah tak puasa, tak dapat pegi rumah your friends hari raya nanti.
heiress - wafa tahu rumah nurul madiah kat maner, blok 606 tingkat four (dah sidetrack ni anak)
ibu - wafa puasalah okay. look at abang afiq, he is skinny but strong...he can tahan. saper puasa penoh Allah sayang tao. He loves you and will give you a present
heiress - (suara dah upbeat dgr present) Allah kasik pejen aper....boleh nampak tak pejen tu?
ibu - of course you can see. you will feel very happy, jadi budak pandai....ibu and abah love you very much, friends all suker kat wafa tao (macam real jer aku nie...tapi tu semua benda baik kan..mestilah real beb)

i hope she buys it. but my instinct tells me that this little gal will call again and present her usual set of antics. and i got to gear up myself into defensive mode. armour - check. weapon - check. bullets -check. tinggal nak shoot ajer.

daily ramadhan doa', day 1 :

in the name of Allah the most forgiving and the most merciful,

YA ALLAH, on this day make my fasts the fasts of those who fast (sincerely), and my standing up in prayer of those who stand up in prayer (obediently), awaken me in it from the sleep of the heedless, and forgive me my sins , O God of the worlds, and forgive me, O one who forgives the sinners.

as ramadhan approaches, i would like to seek forgiveness from each and everyone of you, whether i know you or not. thanks for stopping by and spend your precious time reading my humble blog with all my random talks included.

i wish all of you a happy ramadhan. jangan lupa pasang niat puasa ramadhan after maghrib malam ni. hopefully with all our increased ibadah on this holy month, we will get to meet the blessed night of lailatul qadar.

purify our hearts, fill it with kalimatul husna and zikrullah. seek repentance. you will see the difference, definitely. last ramadhan has changed me, this ramadhan i hope Allah will make a better me. the love has grown stronger, the longing has grown more intense. i pray for more strength, for me to fight my own nafs. i pray for more burning, intense longing for i want to meet him, my love, my warrior...my rasulullah peace be upon him.

why is life so difficult. and yet it is so easy to live and die for my religion. Ya Allah. Ya Rabbi, Ya Rahman, Ya Rahim.

Salam Ramadhan my loves.

the one with the perfect finale

puas! i got to embrace these beautiful babes very tight i think they almost turned blue. thanks to janna for the impromptu but lovely dinner at the indonesian restaurant at riverside point. thanks to her kak lyn and i got to set foot in the oldest mosque which was 1st built in s’pore. that was a pleasant maghrib spent in a 160-year old mosque. ain’t that simply awesome! MasyaAllah.

thanks to her my lil gal went to slumberland without brushing her teeth after walloping her choc cookies. *winks*. thanks to her she got my skin oil smeared on her flawless rosy cheeks…nasib u lah janna..yikes!

and of course those lovelies, kak lyn, sri, nadia, dilah, effa, kyn, shasha, what can i say, they are simply…lovely.

so without further due, let pictures tell the story, the perfect dinner finale before ramadhan sets in.

janna, maner you....oh, you were the one who took this pic kan...alamak. miss your cheeks lah.

ps : lovelies, late last night i received an immediate text reply from sis muna (yes, all the way from cairo!) with regards to our yet to be disclosed plan. Insyaallah lovelies, anything for Allah will be granted. shall we wait for sis muna’s return first and then we’ll send out the invites. okay kan?

it is not the problem that is the issue

but rather it is your attitude attending to the problem that is the problem

it is not what happens to you that determine your
happiness

it is how you think about what happens to you

thanks rasida.

salam everyone. yes, what do you know…it’s monday again blah blah blah. but surprisingly royal highness awoke bright and early and in good spirits. Macam happy happy feeling jer gitu. you know, that kind of feeling when you just feel-that-all-is- smooth-sailing-and-like-nothing’s-gonna-ruin-your-day kind of feeling. I think I must have done something awesome and I am getting rewarded for my good deed….agaknyer jer and i hope that is really the case.

and oh, of course there’s ramadhan….another reason to be joyful and grateful that we will be meeting up with the holy month again. thanks to Allah.

but one thing for sure, my relationship with emak has gone to another level of wholesomeness. i’m lovin’ her and more and more each passing day. and i learn to comprehend her point of view. when our conversation doesn’t go the way i anticipated, i learn to quickly zikir astaghfirullah under my breath, solemnly. MasyaAllah it really works wonders. now hubby and i have to satisfy her desire to beautify our living room with her proud collection of self-sewn curtains. given a choice, hubby and i have unanimously voted for no-curtain show for the balcony. but what can you do when a mother says ‘inilah permintaan mak yang terakhir, lain mak tak nak. nanti kalo aku mati tak derlah terbeliak mater aku nengok umah ko takder langsir”, boleh gitu? mothers can only be described two ways – either they are good at psycho thingy (reverse psychology, get it?) or they really are psychos. yes i realized that last week. but it was funny to the point of being comical having her said that.
Emak, mak…..i love you sesangat.

but of course, i am only human. i had a couple of setbacks the past week. not to mention many, but royal highness really would like to tadarus and khatam al-quran with bonda at her hq everyday for 10days straight starting this ramadhan. but husband said no – too far away (tampines), the tadarus will end very late (don’t think so, after tarawih we’ll be dismissed), his elder sis is always available whenever i want to recite quran (but this is tadarus, tak samer ngan belajar ngaji like usual). bottomline is a big NO. disappointed, yes. but isteri adalah milik suami. hubby’s concern with regards to distance. i appreciate his concern and i’ll find other options. in life there are plenty of choices. i’ll choose one which will benefit me and will leave a smile on hubby's sexy lips.

bonda’s words are still ringing in my head “belajarlah, tak kira jauh atau dekat, lagi jauh lagi barakah..setiap tapak yang kita langkah kerana Allah di beri berlipat ganda pahala”. MasyaAllah. bestnyer…….cepatlah timbul ramadhan, tak sabar oden menunggu nie.

the happiest people in the world
are not those who have no problems
but those who learn to live with things that are less than perfect

as i read on the pages on the book of History of the prophets of islam (may peace be upon them), i found a very interesting quote :

permission [to fight] has been given to those who are being fought, because they were wronged. and indeed God is able to give them victory. [they are] those who have been evicted from their homes without right, only because they say, “OUR LORD IS GOD.”
……indeed, God is all-powerful and almighty.

this reminds me of something close to home. while the above deals with the bigger issues and occurred at the time of the new beginning of Islam centuries ago, the issues which we have to deal with at present are no less significant and also a rightful cause to fight for.

2 months ago, a niece of mine was called for an interview at an advertising firm in a central business district. while the interview was taking place with the director,
she brought forward a question, “do you have any problems with me wearing this?” she pointed to her headgear/tudung/hijab.
the interviewer replied “no, it’s just that i find it strange that a girl young as you (she’s 21 mind you!) is wearing the cover-up. i tot this cover-up thingy applies only to older women. Can you hear well underneath that cloth?”
certainly a misconception and something to smile about you think. but we shall let this pass as the interviewer is a male caucasian foreigner.

my niece got her very 1st job experience as graphic designer without having to sacrifice her religion. alhamdulillah. but how many of you out there who are as lucky as my niece? ‘Fight in the way of God those who fight you but do not commit transgression and God will surely support those who support Him.

bonda once related a story of a highly paid veteran nurse whose desire is to perform her obligatory duties as a muslimah. we all know the standard attire for our homeland nurses. resignation was not an option for her at that time as the family depended on dual income. upon bonda’s advise, she went to work covered-up and changed into her white crisp dress at the hospital. while changing into the uniform, she made supplications and zikir to Allah,
‘ya allah, aku mohon kepadamu supaya janganlah pakaian ini menjadi sebati pada diriku, jauhkanlah diriku dari penganiayaan dan sifat takbur, tetapkanlah imanku ya allah. astaghfirullah hal adzim.”

she would then changed back into her muslimah attire after her shift ended. she applied this routine without fail for years to come. then her husband got promoted and pay-rise, they could manage on single income though they could have lived more comfortably had she carried on with her job. but she quit. ‘Fight in the way of God those who fight you but do not commit transgression and God will surely support those who support Him'

and this is only ¼ of a battle won. there are still many battles after one emerge victorious maintaining her hijab. ‘Fight in the way of God those who fight you but do not commit transgression and God will surely support those who support Him.

now there is a battle to perform the 2nd pillar of islam. for most of us including myself who are working on office-hour shifts, that will be performing 2 out of 5 obligatory prayers – zuhur and 'asar. next comes the ‘selective, fussy-eater’ label. Fight in the way of God those who fight you but do not commit transgression and God will surely support those who support Him'

Fight – only for Allah
Transgress – do not commit this fatal mistake. Islam is a beautiful religion of peace for all people. MasyaAllah.
Educate - never exasperate and intensify the non-muslims whose understanding of islam derives only from 9-11.

whoever we are, whatever we do, wherever we come from, we carry islam in our every speech, every step, every where. most often than not, we are the cause of misconceptions. we are our own walking contradictions.

but it is never too late for us to set the record straight, or is it?

ramadhan, ramadhan, ramadhan and syawal.....
no halaqah with sis muna
no fardhu 'ain with bonda zubaidah
but definitely ramadhan will come
can't wait to celebrate yet another holy month after syaaban
missing my halaqah sisters, missing sis muna and sis thuraiyah
missing fardhu 'ain sisters, missing bonda
life is so sunyi sepi without these two activities

oh yeah, refer to kak sri's latest entry on doa'/supplication for our children which sis muna shared with us. another very good doa which ought to be included in our daily supplication after our prayers. MasyaAllah

with this new addition of doa for our zuriats, may they be better muslimin and muslimah and may they be our tickets to jannah. insyaallah.
